ESPRSESO MANIFESTO - (LITTLE) ITALY SERIES AT THE MONARCH TAVERN
Daniela Nardi’s Espresso Manifesto will be doing a 6 month residency at the Monarch Tavern in Little Italy. Starting Wednesday October 26 with monthly dates until April 2017, DNEM will be using the Monarch as their “music lab” as they work on new material and arrangements for a new album, new show material and working on ideas for Edinburgh Fringe 2017.

Tucked away in the intimate and comfortable setting of the Scottish Arts Club, Canadian singer Daniela Nardi and her group Espresso Manifesto, comprising Ron Davis (piano), Chris Jennings (double bass), Neil Paton (drums) and Kevin Barrett (guitar/ musical director) treated us to an hour of smooth jazz, originating from the undervalued but rich repertoire of the Italian songbook. The songs were a mix of covers of Paolo Conte and his contemporaries, Caterina Valente, in addition to some of Nardi’s own material.

Daniela Nardi is of Calabrian origins therefore “testarda” meaning stubborn but in the best sense of the word. She is at ease with many artistic styles (she passes with stunning indifference through pop to jazz, improvisation yet playing within classical lines). One of the most original voices of the Italian songbook in North America (even seductive and passionate with French and of course English) with warm clear phrasing and who has 4 albums already credited to her name.
